How to update your wardrobe for Spring 2010

Spring 2010 is on its way which means its time to think of ways to update your wardrobe to make it lighter and fresher. The overall trend for Spring 2010 is softness and femeninity, both in terms of styles and colours.

The neutrals for Spring 2010 have been reworked and are now softer and more feminine. They include a soft champagne pink-beige, eucalyptus a soft grey green and a softened khaki, like the colour of dried herbs.

The traditional colours of spring, reflecting the yellow and purples of spring flowers and the yellow greens of new shoots have been softened into more femenine hues. Soft coral and turquoise are also key colours for the season, together with a new shade of blue and a softened red.

1. Start with Spring's basics in neutral colours

Start by making sure you have springs's basic classic items in either the traditional neutral colours of navy, white, cream, tan, taupe and light grey, or the new neutrals.
For versatility and longevity, these items are best in neutral colours. Springs key basic items include:

•A trench coat
•A pair of sunglasses for those hopefully sunny days
•Tops

•Long sleeve medium weight knitwear such as cardigans and sweaters

•Long sleeve tee shirts for layering.
•Bottoms
•Trousers in mid tone neutral greys, taupes and soft khakis.

•Skirts in mid tone neutral greys, taupes and soft khakis.

•Denim for jeans and skirts in either a dark inky navy or a softer mid-tone.

•A soft leather everyday bag

•Soft leather pumps.

These items form the back bone of your wardrobe and are what makes it work.
Next we will bring them upto date and make them interesting by adding colour and accessories in Spring 2010's new soft and femenine shades.

Step 2.

Now UPDATE YOUR WARDROBE by adding clothes and accessories in Spring 2010's exciting and new colours and prints.

Now we can start to add more excitement to these basics by adding accessories and other items of clothing in this seasons colours and prints.

•Print - Each season has its own prints. Classic prints for spring include polka dots, nautical stripes and spring florals. The trend prints for Spring 2010 are abstract prints, pretty florals and digital prints.

•Colour - The colours for Spring 2010 are soft and femenine. Soft corals and aqua's and new shade of mid blue, soft purples, and soft yellows (lemongrass) and soft limey-greens reflecting springs new growth.

•Accessories - Jewelry, shoes, hosiery, handbags, hats, scarves, gloves.

•The cheapest and easiest way to update your wardrobe for Spring 2010 is with accessories. If you can’t afford to buy new clothes at the beginning of the season, a new accessory, worn with your classic basics can bring your look bang up to date.

•For spring, classic accessories include sunglasses for those hopefully sunny days, silk or cotton scarves in one of springs fresh colours or prints, shoes that put a bounce in your step such as pretty coloured ballerina pumps, soft ankle boots or handbags in one of springs neutral or trend colours.

•For jewelry, there are classics such as gold or silver chains or ropes of pearls that can continue to be worn, but there are also trend pieces too. For Spring 2010 the statement necklace is still a popular choice.
